Internet of Things (IoT)

Why IoT is so important

The Internet of things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects—“things” or objects—that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data. These devices range from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools.  IoT has become one of the most important technologies of the 21st century.

Target audience

This class is designed for kids 12 years and up. Basic computer science knowledge is required.

About the class

This class starts with the introduction of basic circuit design. Then we use Arduino platform and hardware to learn and practice the design of hardware system. This class is very hands-on. It is a perfect class for students to learn about combining hardware and software design.

Circuit design

  • Elements of a circuit
  • Common components and sensors

  • Arduino system
  • Arduino IDE
  • Arduino coding
  • IoT Cloud

Projects and labs

We will use many labs to get hands-on experience.

What do you need?

  • Arduino parts and other components
  • A desktop or laptop computer with keyboard

Q: What prior knowledge is required to take this class?

Graduation from Python I or equivalent is required.

Q: Will my kids build something I can see?

Yes. Each lab will create a system that is functional. You can see how it works and test it out with your kid.

Q: Can I cancel my registration?

You can cancel within the first 2 classes for any reasons. You will receive a pro-rated refund. You only pay for the class taken.
